Wash your car at least once a week
Avoid washing your car in direct sunlight and make sure the surface of car is cool before washing. Use cold or lukewarm water and a hose rather than a bucket of water to wet and rinse the car. Cool water causes the hot body to contract, which can ruin the finish and crack the paint. Clean the tires first then clean the wheels to eliminate brake dust and road salt corrosion. Always wash the body of a car from the top down that way soap scum and sludge don’t muck up freshly washed areas. Give the entire roof of the car a good rub with the help of sponge and soapy water.
Drying your car after washing is necessary to prevent water spots. Water spots are caused by mineral deposits that etch the outline of a drop of water into your car paint. When the water evaporates, the minerals in the water remain on the surface and create water spots. Use a cotton cloth to wipe off the water. Dry the windows and mirrors first with paper towel. Wipe around all doors, lift gate, hood, trunk and your gas filler door. Dry your wheels using a towel that is made just for this purpose. Wash the towel before you use it again
